Neuromodulators:
Botox
INJECTABLES
Neuromodulators are injected into certain areas to relax the muscles in the face that create lines and wrinkles. These injections are a simple, quick procedure with no downtime. Many call it the “lunchtime procedure”.

You can expect to see the full effect of the treatment in 14 days. Treatment in specific areas will smooth the appearance of any wrinkles and it can also prevent wrinkles from forming.
Treatments usually last 4 months and sometimes longer. The effects are temporary and will gradually wear off.
Because these treatments are temporary, many patients choose to continue maintaining treatments every 4-6 months because they are happy with the way they look and feel. You can also choose to let it wear off and simply return to your usual look. Patients who maintain their treatments feel better when they look in the mirror.
We ensure we utilize “Best Practices” when planning your injectable treatment. These guidelines help us to determine the amount of product needed for each area. We do not give our patients a “frozen face”. In fact, the results of our treatments give you a natural, refreshed and rejuvenated look.
Botox is a widely popular cosmetic treatment that can help you achieve a smoother and more youthful appearance. Like any other cosmetic procedure, it’s important to be aware of the potential side effects before undergoing treatment. While Botox is generally safe and well-tolerated, you may experience some common side effects such as mild headaches, temporary pain, swelling, and bruising at the injection sites, or even flu-like symptoms. One possible side effect that you may have heard about is heavy eyelids, which can understandably cause concern.
Heavy eyelids after Botox are typically caused by one of two reasons. The first is from the relaxation of the frontalis or forehead muscle. More specifically, some people use their frontalis to actually lift the top portion of their eyelids (think engaging the forehead muscle to put eyeshadow on). Often, if you receive a high dose in your forehead and can no longer lift the eyebrows, you might also notice the skin above the eyelid feels heavy. The second reason is called ptosis. Ptosis is when either the levator palpebrae or the upper portion of the orbicularis oculi (muscles around the eye) are inadvertently relaxed by botox.
If you experience droopy eyelids after receiving a Botox treatment, don’t worry! Even if you received a low dose and worked with an experienced injector, this can still happen. It’s important to remember that the sensation of heaviness in your eyelids will gradually improve every two weeks until it has fully lightened back to baseline.
I go above and beyond to avoid heavy eyelids as best as I can. However, it’s important to acknowledge that this is a potential risk when undergoing Neuromodulator treatment, especially if it’s your first time and muscles are especially naïve to Botox. Although it can happen even with low doses, avoiding this phenomenon drives my treatment techniques. Starting with a lower dose, avoiding rubbing the area, and following post-treatment instructions can help minimize the risk of heavy eyelids after Botox.
